Matthew Olivier’s videos function as single-channel works, but rather than being confined to a monitor or projection in a gallery, they are distributed across social platforms and viewed simultaneously by millions. What’s conceptually new in The Fine Art Collective is not the format itself but the distribution. The work does not live in a gallery or loop quietly in a darkened room. It lives out in the world, scattered across platforms, unfolding moment by moment, and reaching a mass audience through the same networks that shape how we think, feel, and communicate.
Throughout history, artistic movements have reflected the world around them. Romanticism rose in response to industrialization. Abstract Expressionism emerged from the aftermath of war. Today, we live within social media. We are shaped by content streams, short-form attention, and a need for constant stimulation delivered through handheld screens.
The Fine Art Collective is not a studio team or fixed group. It is you, the audience itself, invited into a work of distributed performance, installation, and video. The project blurs the boundary between artwork and observer, where attention becomes part of the piece. Every view, every share, every moment of engagement is folded into the work. The Fine Art Collective reflects our moment. It was not adapted to social media. It exists because of it.
